Sevilla to take Atleti to court on Vitolo

Sevilla have confirmed they will take rivals Atletico Madrid to court following their summer purchase of Spain international Vitolo.

The 27-year-old moved to Atleti this summer when they triggered his €37.5m release clause at the Andalucians, but he will play on loan at Las Palmas until January due to the club’s registration ban.

The move came after officials at Estadio Sanchez Pizjuan had announced the winger had signed a contract extension with the club and after the move was confirmed they said they would take legal action.

Sevilla claim they had agreed upon the deal renewal with the player in a contract which could not be unilaterally breached and have instructed their lawyers to now open court proceedings.

Vitolo spent four seasons in Andalucia having initially joined from his hometown side Las Palmas in 2013 and went on to win three Europa League titles at the club.
