Roma want January Gimenez swoop

Roma are the latest club to register an interest in Atletico Madrid central defender Jose Maria Giminez, who is out of contract next summer.

Atleti’s Uruguayan defender is reportedly top of sporting director’s Monchi list of targets in January and believe he would be available in a cut-price deal, according to Corriere dello Sport.

Last week, reports had linked him with a winter move to Inter, who missed out on late summer deals for Shkodran Mustafi and Eliaquim Mangala.

Gimenez’s release clause is set at €65m but at the risk of losing him on a free transfer next summer, it is likely Los Rojiblancos would accept a cut-price deal.

The 22-year-old is reportedly open to a move away from Atleti due to lack of playing time – he started only 12 La Liga fixtures last season and is behind Diego Godin and Stefan Savic in Diego Simeone’s pecking order.
