Laporta signs anti-Bartomeu petition

Former Barcelona president Joan Laporta has confirmed he has signed the motion of no confidence against the club’s current board.

Laporta – club president between 2003 and 2010 – lost out to current incumbent Josep Maria Bartomeu in the 2015 elections, in the wake of Barca winning the treble.

“As a socio, I am the 15,142nd person to sign the #VotodeCensura2017,” Laporta tweeted on Sunday.

“The club is owned by socios.”

He has frequently voiced his opposition to the club’s current board and has signed former presidentital candidate Agusti Benedito’s petition, which is aiming for 16,750 signatures.

In July, Laporta told an interview with The Guardian: “If [the board] resigned now, I'd definitely stand [for election].

“We left them [Sandro Rosell, Bartomeu] the greatest Barca in the club's history and they spent their time destroying it.

“Barcelona has been kidnapped. It's hostage to the intoxication, manipulation and lies [of this board] and it's sad.”
