Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo admits Diego Simeone’s renewal is not linked to Diego Costa, but the striker ‘could arrive’ in January.
The Argentine Coach signed a two-year renewal to his Atleti deal earlier this week after a summer in which a deal for the Chelsea striker’s return to the club failed to materialise.
“We have not shown him [Simeone] Costa's contract,” Cerezo is quoted as saying by Marca.
“What happened is that all contracts have an end date, and when that happens there are talks about extending them.
“This summer we could not sign players but yes, in January Costa could arrive, or many others.”
