Perez: Ronaldo loves Madrid

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has robustly rejected rumours from summer of Cristiano Ronaldo wishing to leave the club.

In a wide-ranging interview with Cadena Ser on Thursday, Perez explained the Portuguese star’s unhappiness at a court case into his alleged €14.7m tax evasion but played down claims of a move.

“I don't know what happened with Cristiano Ronaldo,” admitted Perez.

“There was a report which emerged from A Bola (Portuguese sports paper) because there was not much to talk about over summer and they needed to fill the paper, but it crossed the line.

“Of course Cristiano is upset about the tax issue but I never heard of his desire to leave as he explained he was very happy in Madrid, so he went on holiday and we moved on.

“He has since clarified he is happy at Real Madrid, he loves the club, and will play for us in the Champions League on Wednesday – he is very excited to start.”
