Spain eye Brazil at Wanda Metropolitano

Spain’s football federation (RFEF) are hopeful of arranging an international friendly against Brazil at Atletico Madrid’s next Wanda Metropolitano stadium.

Julen Lopetegui’s Spain need only four more points from their final two World Cup qualification games – they take on Albania in Alicante on October 6 before travelling to Israel three days later – to guarantee top spot over Italy.

That would ensure two dates in November would be free for the side to arrange friendly matches, with Marca and Diario AS both reporting the RFEF are keen to bring Brazil to Atleti’s new stadium.

Los Rojiblancos president Enrique Cerezo reportedly has excellent relations with the federation while Marca say their sources at the Brazilian FA believe they would be open to the idea.

Brazil have not played in Spain since a scoreless draw in Vigo in 1999, while the last time the side’s met was in the 2013 Confederations Cup final, when the South Americans ran out 3-0 victors.
