‘Barcelona could choose League’

Barcelona could choose to play in Spain or a Catalan League should independence be achieved, according to Catalonia's Union of Sports Federations.

The union’s President explained how the Blaugrana would not be forced out of La Liga should the region split off from Spain, contradicting claims previously made by the League’s chief, Javier Tebas.

“Speaking economically, there is plenty of research which shows that Catalan federations could have up to €93m annually as an independent state," Gerard Estreva is quoted as saying by Marca.

“If Catalonia were to leave Spain, then Barcelona would have the luxury of choosing which League they wished to participate in.”

Tebas has previously stated a new law would need to go through the Spanish parliament in order for any Catalan clubs to be accepted back into Spanish football.
