Busquets criticises Pique whistles

Sergio Busquets has criticised Spain fans who whistled his Barcelona teammate Gerard Pique in Saturday’s victory over Italy.

A number of whistles from the home end of the Bernabeu – home of Barca’s fierce rivals Real Madrid – could be heard whenever the central defender touched the ball in the early stages of Saturday’s match.

“Fans should not identify and classify players as playing for Barcelona or for any other team,” Busquets told Marca.

“What would I give the fans out of 10? 9.5. They were whistling from the start so I cannot give them full marks, as that is something that affects everybody and simply put, we must stick together.

“Life under Lopetegui? He is the reason for much of our success on the pitch, the Coach has done a very good job and has a strong relationship with the players.

“We are now solely focused on the Liechtenstein game, we must work hard to win three points and not let any of the noise around being favourites distract us, as we don’t see it that way.”
