Nice: Bartomeu was embarrassed

Nice have claimed that Barcelona had an agreement for Jean Michael Seri, but an “embarrassed” Josep Maria Bartomeu pulled the plug.

Barca had been heavily linked with Seri towards the end of the summer, but the midfielder ultimately stayed at Nice and blamed the club for refusing to negotiate his sale with the Catalans.

“On Wednesday morning [August 23], Julien Fournier [Nice general manager] called me early at 9am and said, ‘Jean-Pierre, I don’t understand, I got a call from Barca, they told me that they were no longer interested Micka [Seri]’,” President Jean-Pierre Rivere told Canal+.

“In the afternoon, Josep Maria Bartomeu, a little embarrassed, said, ‘Jean-Pierre… Our staff have decided not to sign Micka Seri. It’s not a money problem at all.’

“On Thursday morning, it was definitely confirmed. They didn’t sign Micka Seri.

“Everything had changed. I told Barca, ‘you blew it for the player’ because they had a contract ready for him.

“I put myself in Micka’s shoes. It was his dream was to join Barca, but it disappeared the very next day.”
