Morata hails Spain support

Alvaro Morata paid tribute to Spain fans “who backed us all the way” during their 3-0 win against Italy on Saturday.

Morata came off the bench to wrap up a victory that seemingly booked Spain’s place at the 2018 World Cup and condemned Italy to the playoffs, and he was quick to praise the support La Roja received at the Santiago Bernabeu.

“It looked easier than it was, it’s certainly not easy to beat Italy, especially like this,” the Chelsea striker told Rai Sport.

“We had a great game and thank the fans at the Bernabeu who backed us all the way.

“I expected to be on the bench and knew we would play like this, as the last time we beat Italy, it was with a similar system, so I was mentally prepared to come on in the second half.

“Scoring against Buffon? I really love Gigi and I want him to be happy. I’d never managed to score against him, but from now on I hope everything goes his way.”
