Bonucci: Sergio Ramos is world’s best

Milan and Italy defender Leonardo Bonucci claims his Real Madrid and Spain counterpart Sergio Ramos is ‘the best defender in the world’.

Speaking ahead of the Azzurri’s clash with La Roja in a crucial World Cup qualifier this weekend, Bonucci – who made the controversial switch to the Rossoneri from Juventus this summer – stated his admiration for the Madrid defender.

“Sergio is the best defender in the world and won the Champions League prize,” Bonucci told a press conference.

“Tackles and interceptions are partly down to the entire defence but there is also a certain science involved and you can see that with him.

“Against Spain? We have a team that can cause them problems and we will do our best to get the victory even though we know it will not be easy.

“We have confidence because there are a lot young talents coming through – there has been a generational change with young players who have a lot of quality.

“I hope to be part of this change and stay for several years more wearing the blue shirt. Rugani, Caldara and Romagnoli are all very good.

“In midfield there is Pellegrini and Verrati, in attack we have Insigne and Belotti. Overall you can see we are in good shape.”
