La Liga Week 2 Review 1/2

Celta Vigo slumped to another defeat, Levante rescued a late point against Deportivo La Coruna and Girona made history with victory over Malaga.

Real Betis 2-1 Celta Vigo

Real Betis bagged their first win of the season, beating Celta Vigo 2-1 to leave the Galicians without any points in their first two games.

Maxi Gomez grabbed his third goal of the season just 10 minutes in, his header from a corner deflecting past Antonio Adan.

However, Sergio Leon hit back with a similarly-headed equaliser, before Sergio Alvarez needed to tip over Andres Guardado’s aerial effort.

Zouhair Feddal then proceeded to rise highest for the winner with only 13 minutes left on the clock.

Levante 2-2 Deportivo La Coruna

Levante came back from 2-0 down to earn a 2-2 draw with Deportivo La Coruna, who remain winless after two matches.

Fede Cartabia got the ball rolling in Saturday’s clash with a side-footed finish from close range, although Ruben Martinez needed to get down low to push away Jason Remeseiro’s curler not long after.

Depor doubled their lead through Sidnei’s header and looked set to take all three points, but Eris Bardhi’s delightful free kick pulled one back for Levante.

The Valencians had Jose Luis Morales sent off for two bookable offences, yet Juanfran’s high boot on Ivi Lopez allowed the substitute to convert the subsequent penalty.

Girona 1-0 Malaga

Girona won their first-ever top-flight game on Saturday as they defeated struggling Malaga 1-0.

Pedro Alcala was the man who wrote himself into Girona’s history books, sweeping up a rebound in the Malaga box.

Opening-day hero Cristhian Stuani then dragged a finish just wide of the far post, before Boquerones substitute Jony Rodriguez forced Gorka Iraizoz into a save at his near post.

Manchester City loanee Douglas Luiz appeared as a substitute for the Catalans, and his curler late on clipped the post.
