David Villa back in Spain squad

David Villa has returned to the Spain squad for the first time since the 2014 World Cup ahead of the clashes with Italy and Liechtenstein.

The New York City striker has scored 59 international goals in 97 caps – the nation's all-time leading international goalscorer – but has not featured since leaving Atletico Madrid for a move to the United States three years ago.

The 35-year-old is the benefactor from Diego Costa’s absence – the Chelsea striker has not been involved in first-team training this summer after being told he could leave the club.

Milan attacker Suso has also been handed a first call-up to the squad following an impressive spell with the Rossoneri.

The 23-year-old former Liverpool player netted seven times in 36 appearances for the Milanese giants last year and is set to be a regular once more this season.

A number of stars from this summer's European Under-21 Championships are also included in the squad including Saul Niguez, Marco Asensio and Gerard Deulofeu.

Spain squad: De Gea, Reina, Kepa, Alba, Azpilicueta, Bartra, Carvajal, Monreal, Nacho, Pique, Ramos, Isco, Thiago, Busquets, Suso, Silva, Iniesta, Saul, Koke, Asensio, Aspas, Deulofeu, Vitolo, Morata, Pedro, Villa
