Goretzka offered to Barcelona

Barcelona have been offered Germany international Leon Goretzka by Schalke, who risk losing him on a free next summer, say reports in Spain.

The Bundesliga side are wary of losing the midfielder to Bayern Munich on a free transfer next year and would prefer to cash in on him to a non-rival, according to El Mundo Deportivo.

Barca sporting director Robert Fernandez and Urbano Ortega reportedly travelled to Germany to watch the recent clash between the Gelsenkirchen-based side and RB Leipzig.

The purpose of the trip, states the report, was to watch both Goretzka, 22, and Leipzig’s Naby Kieta – who’s price is far too high for the Blaugrana to consider.

Schalke bought Goretzka from VfL Bochum in 2013 for €3.25m (£2.9m) and the current price-tag is over €25m (£22.3m).

Last season he contributed eight goals and six assists in 41 competitive games for Schalke.

Italian duo Juventus and Milan have also been linked with Goretzka, who plays primarily as a central midfielder.
