Deulofeu: Win for terrorist victims

Barcelona have dedicated their opening day La Liga victory over Real Betis to the victims of last week’s terror attacks in the Catalan capital.

Winger Gerard Deulofeu, a youth product of La Masia who returned to the club from Everton this summer, explained the squad hoped the victory game a lift after ‘a terrible week’ for the city.

“We want to dedicate this victory to the victims of last week’s attacks,” Deulofeu told a post-match press conference.

“It has been a terrible week for the city, we are not afraid but we hope this will all end.

“It was good for us to pick up these three points after the frustration and annoyance of missing out on the first trophy of the season (Spanish Super Cup).

“We want to win every trophy at this club so of course that was frustrating.

“I’m personally happy with returning following an injury and have now played a few games, my performance has been good and I hope to build on it.”
