Gabriel rules out Leganes departure

Brazilian winger Gabriel Pires has ruled out leaving Leganes this summer after netting the winner on the opening day victory over Alaves.

The 23-year-old has been linked with a move to Rafael Benitez’s Newcastle United this summer but he has insisted he sees his future at Butarque.

“I’m here and working hard, I’ve no intention of leaving,” Gabriel is quoted as saying by Marca.

“I am focused on playing for Leganes and on improving as a player and for both me and the team to have a better year than last.

“I’m delighted as this is the perfect start to the league.

“We must carry on like this and keep growing. Of course I’m happy to score because it gives you a confidence boost but it is the team I am happy for.

“It was fantastic to see our name at the top of the table, even if it was just for one night, but it was nice to dream…”
