Ronaldo given five-game ban

Cristiano Ronaldo has been given a five-game ban after he pushed the referee who sent him off in Real Madrid’s win over Barcelona.

Ronaldo was shown a second yellow card, for simulation, minutes after he received a first booking for taking off his shirt to celebrate his goal in Madrid’s 3-1 win over Barca at Camp Nou in the Supercopa de Espana first leg.

The Portugal forward stands to miss the second leg of the Supercopa, as well as La Liga fixtures with Deportivo La Coruna, Valencia, Levante and Real Sociedad.

Madrid are however to appeal the sanction and hope to at least reduce the ban to four games by having Ronaldo’s second caution wiped out.

Both Madrid and Ronaldo have also been fined, while Ronaldo was facing a maximum 12-game ban for the shove on the official.
