Valencia have held talks with out-of-favour Atletico Madrid forward Luciano Vietto as they move ahead in the race for his signature, say reports.

Plaza Deportiva report the Argentine’s representatives are scheduled to hold talks with Los Che on Monday, with Southampton and Sampdoria among the other clubs monitoring his situation.

The 23-year-old has returned to Diego Simeone’s side following a season long loan stint at Sevilla but is reportedly not in first team plans for the season ahead.

Vietto netted 10 times in 31 matches for the Andalucians but did not convince enough in order for Los Rojiblancos to pursue their interest.

Atleti signed the striker in 2015 following a successful season at Villarreal, who had brought the Argentine to Spain from Racing Club in his homeland.

However, the attacker failed to impress in his one season at the Vicente Calderon – scoring just one La Liga goal – and is behind Antoine Griezmann, Kevin Gameiro and Fernando Torres in Diego Simeone’s pecking order.
