Ronaldo faces lengthy ban

Cristiano Ronaldo faces a lengthy suspension of between four and 12 matches after pushing the referee after his dismissal at the Camp Nou on Sunday.

The Portuguese star was controversially sent off for Real Madrid for a second yellow card after going to ground under the challenge of Samuel Umtiti.

Having scored the goal to restore Madrid’s lead, the 32-year-old then pushed referee Ricardo De Burgos Bengoetxea in a sign of frustration.

“Once the red card was shown, the player pushed me slightly in a sign of disagreement,” Bengoetxea noted in his post-match report.

Marca highlight Article 96 of the Spanish FA's rulebook which states that any contact with the official will result in a ban between four and 12 games.

As Ronaldo’s push was not of significant force and did not appear premeditated, it is likely such a ban will be on the lower end of the scale.
