City approach for Busquets?

Manchester City have approached Barcelona in an ambitious bid to lure midfielder Sergio Busquets to the Etihad Stadium according to reports in Spain.

Onda Cero claim the Citizens are in the market for a new holding midfielder following Fernando’s departure to Galatasaray and Pep Guardiola is ‘extremely keen’ to bring in Busquets, whom he integrated into the first team squad at the Camp Nou.

Under Guardiola, the Spain international won 14 trophies for the Blaugrana and it was claimed their close working relationship could open up the possibility of a move.

However, Diario Sport highlight the 29-year-old’s contract in Catalonia is set to run until June 2021 with the club also holding a two-year extension option.

The Barcelona-based paper rules out the possibility of Busquets or Sergi Roberto – reportedly interesting City, Manchester United and Chelsea – with moves away from the club.
