Line-ups: Madrid-United

Cristiano Ronaldo is a substitute for Real Madrid against Manchester United in the European Super Cup, but Gareth Bale starts as a centre forward.

Ronaldo only returned to training on Sunday after an extended break due to his participation at the Confederations Cup, but he is nonetheless fit enough to be named on the bench.

It is otherwise a full-strength Madrid XI fielded by Zinedine Zidane, with Isco playing in the hole behind Karim Benzema and Bale – the latter’s inclusion a sign that he is not for sale.

United, meanwhile, start with David de Gea between the sticks and Ander Herrera alongside Paul Pogba and new boy Nemanja Matic in the middle of the park.

The Red Devils got the upper hand in their previous meeting with Los Blancos, winning 2-1 on penalties in an International Champions Cup friendly last month.
