Diego Simeone admits there is no update on Diego Costa as the Coach is only thinking about “convincing Atletico Madrid they’re the best”.

Costa has been heavily linked with a return to Atleti this summer, but the striker remains a Chelsea player with less than a month of the transfer window left.

The delay has been attributed to Los Colchoneros’ ban on registering any new faces until January, but Simeone insisted there was no issue.

“Transfer ban? First of all, the most important thing is the club’s work in not letting important players leave and extending their contracts,” he said after his side’s 3-2 win at Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday.

“As for me, there’s been no other discourse than to improve the group I currently have. When there’s enthusiasm, we always find things to motivate ourselves.

“Unrest in the market? It’s clear that there are some situations that can’t be managed.

“There’s always this unrest until the window shuts, but we’ll stay the way we are and we’re very competitive.

“Neymar and PSG showed anyone could leave, but I’m always calm, that’s why I highlighted the work of the club over my own.

“I can only convince my team that they’re the best in the world, although the other [teams] have more money.

“Costa? The club are the ones that are working on these situations. I don’t have time to think about anything other than improving my players.

“There’s nothing else to say about him, he’s not our player.”
