Betis to miss out on Pasalic

Real Betis look set to miss out on a loan deal for Chelsea midfielder Mario Pasalic, who instead looks set to join Spartak Moscow.

The English champions look set to take up their option of extending Pasalic’s contract – due to expire in June 2018 – by one year when the expected loan deal to the Russian club goes through.

Spartak are managed by Massimo Carrera, who was Chelsea manager Antonio Conte’s number two during his time at Juventus and Italy with Gianluca Di Marzio's website saying a deal has now been agreed.

Lazio were reportedly favourites for Pasalic but that move collapsed after the Rome-based club signed Lucas Leiva from Liverpool and are focusing on other areas of their squad.

Betis have already completed seven summer incomings including midfielders Andres Guardado and Victor Camarasa.

The 22-year-old had previously spent one campaign in Spain – with Elche in 2014/15 – and he scored five goals in 20 Serie A appearances for Milan last season.
