United plan duo’s extensions

Spain international duo Juan Mata and Ander Herrera are both set to sign new contracts at Manchester United, according to reports.

Both midfielders deals at Old Trafford expire in June 2018 but the extension of both for an initial further year is seen as a priority at the club, according to ESPN.

Juan Mata signed from Chelsea in January 2014 for a fee of £38m before Herrera arrived from Athletic Bilbao six months later in a deal worth £27m.

27-year-old Herrera has been linked with a move to Barcelona this summer where former Athletic boss Ernesto Valverde reportedly wants to be reunited with the combative midfielder.

Mata, 29, has been a key figure to United in his three-and-a-half years at the club and netted 10 goals in all competitions last season.

The pair have won the FA Cup, Europa League, League Cup and Community Shield since moving to Old Trafford.
