Sporting Gijon have continued rebuilding their squad following their relegation to La Liga 123 with the signing of Empoli defender Federico Barba.
The 23-year-old made 12 appearances for the Italian side last season as they were relegated from Serie A and he has now moved to the Asturian club although there has been no confirmation of contract length or a transfer fee, although it is rumoured to be €1m.
Barba joined Empoli for in a €250k deal from Grosseto in 2013 but failed to establish himself in the first-team and had a stint on loan at German club Stuttgart in 2016.
The former Italy Under-21 international will replace Jorge Mere, who last week joined FC Koln, in Sporting’s squad.
