Atletico Madrid have cut their links to Indian Super League club Atletico de Kolkata, who will now be renamed Amar Tomar Kolkata.
The Indian club won the first two ISL titles on the bounce but the success has stalled since and Los Rojiblancos will now pull out of India to focus instead on San Luis in Mexico.
"Atletico Madrid and Kolkata have reached an agreement that the Spanish club will not be part of the team in the future," Kolkata’s majority shareholder Sanjiv Goenka is quoted by Marca as saying.
Reports indicate the Madrid-based club never invested any sum of money into the Indian club but due to their 25% stake they were compelled to do so in their fourth season, hence the relationship ending.
