Former Spain international forward Michu, most recently at Real Oviedo, has retired from football aged 31 due to ongoing injury problems.

Perhaps most well-known for his debut season at Swansea City in 2012-13 when he netted 22 goals in 43 appearances, Michu earned his one and only international cap the following year.

The former Celta Vigo, Rayo Vallecano and Napoli striker had one year remaining on his deal with Oviedo, but he is no longer expected to participate next season.

La Nueva Espana reports the Oviedo-native will now look to go into coaching or director role, as he aims to continue his involvement in Spanish football.

Once linked to a €35m move to Arsenal, Michu failed to continue his fine form post-2013 due to persistent injury problems that have seen him struggle for a prolonged first-team run since.
