Nelson Semedo could cost Barcelona in the region of €50m as the right-back vows to “sweat every last drop” for the Catalans.
Barca bought Semedo for €30m on a five-year deal, but fresh reports in the Spanish Press suggest they must pay Benfica €5m for every 50 official matches he plays for a minimum of 45 minutes.
However, that would only apply until the Portuguese signs another contract, while his release clause is said to stand at €100m.
“I’ve developed a lot in four years, thanks to the teammates and Coaches I’ve had,” he said at his official unveiling.
“I’m prepared for this challenge, you can count on me. Once I learned about Barca’s interest, they were my first choice, I didn’t think about the others.
“My representatives and I focused on Barca, they knew how difficult the talks were.
“Reacting to Barca’s interest? I reacted very well, all players aspire to play for Barca, they’re a very desirable club and I’m no exception.
“I arrive with a lot of enthusiasm and responsibility, I’m happy and content and I can’t wait to start.
“I hope to have a good few years here and be productive for Barca.
“I’m a player who loves his shirt and doesn’t give up a lost cause, and for me, a match doesn’t end until the referee blows the final whistle. I’ll sweat every last drop.”
