Ruben Castro to join Guizhou Hengfeng

Real Betis striker Ruben Castro – the club’s highest ever goalscorer – is set to join Chinese Super League club Guizhou Hengfeng, it is reported.

The 36-year-old striker has spent the last seven seasons at Los Verdiblancos where he has netted 147 goals across all competitions, including 13 last campaign, and has been involved in two promotion campaigns.

Castro’s current deal with Los Verdiblancos runs until June 2019 and reports in El Correo and Diario Sport both state he has held extensive discussions in a Seville hotel with his representatives and those of the Chinese club.

Initial indications report a move will likely be a loan deal until January, when the striker will then make a permanent decision regarding his future but any move will see his new club pay his full wages.

Guizhou Hengfeng have reportedly beaten clubs from Qatar to sign Castro, having earlier completed a deal for former Atletico Madrid and Valencia midfielder Mario Suarez.

"There is a possibility that Ruben Castro will leave the club this summer,” Serra Ferrer admitted at a press conference on Monday.

“This is because the player shows an interest of moving on. If it is his wish, we will facilitate it.

“We are satisfied with how quickly the summer is moving, we have a number of deals already finalised and more are in the making.

“We have to search for the players who are the right fit for the team, the Coach and the fans – this Betis side must be successful.”

There have been a number of exits from Betis this summer including Petros, Alex Martinez, Bruno Gonzalez, Dani Pacheco, Francisco Portillo, Cristian Piccini and Roman Zozulya, while loan deals with Ruben Pardo and Ryan Donk have also expired.
