Paulinho confident of Barca deal

Paulinho is hopeful he can force through a move to Barcelona this week despite Guangzhou Evergrande insisting he is not for sale this month.

The Chinese transfer market closes on Friday which adds greater urgency to any such deal should it happen, with Diario Sport reporting the Catalans will return with an improvement on their previous offer of €20m.

Despite Evergrande chairman Xu Jiayin ruling out a move for the Brazilian international, the player and Barca are hopeful a deal can be reached swiftly.

"I have to speak with the president," Paulinho told El Mundo Deportivo.

"But since I received the offer from Barca I've not stopped thinking about it and I hope things can be resolved this week.

"I asked my agent to speed everything up so that it can all be resolved this week because the transfer window shuts soon. That doesn't affect me leaving, but it would prevent Guangzhou signing a replacement.

"If the two clubs reach an agreement, everything between me and Barca will be very easy.

"When I was at Corinthians I turned down an offer to move to Russia worth 10 times what I was earning in Brazil – it’s not about money.”
