Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly been made Real Madrid’s third captain for next season.
According to AS, Pepe’s departure to Besiktas will see Ronaldo move up the pecking order for Madrid’s captaincy, behind Marcelo and skipper Sergio Ramos.
More importantly, however, the Portuguese will participate in decision-making regarding playing issues at the club.
As such, he will regularly meet President Florentino Perez, alongside the two defenders, to “discuss matters that directly affect the first team”.
Furthermore, they will negotiate bonuses in the event Los Blancos won more trophies next term, pass on the players’ opinions to the coaching staff and possibly summon their teammates “if the side’s dynamics weren’t correct”.
Ronaldo made his debut as Madrid captain on January 6, 2013, when they beat Real Sociedad 4-3, due to Iker Casillas and Gonzalo Higuain being substitutes and Ramos and Marcelo both absent.
It comes despite there being no confirmation that he will backtrack on his ‘irreversible decision’ to leave the Spanish capital.
AS adds Karim Benzema, who is starting his ninth campaign at the Santiago Bernabeu, will take the 32-year-old’s place as fourth captain.
