‘Atleti have peaked with new stadium’

Former Atletico Madrid striker Kiko Narvaez claims his old club have “peaked” with their new stadium, Wanda Metropolitano.

Atleti’s move to Wanda Metropolitano has divided opinion between the modernists and traditionalists, the latter of whom preferred the Vicente Calderon, but Kiko believes the new venue represents the next step in Los Colchoneros’ development as an elite club.

“It’s a stadium at the peak of Atletico’s history,” he told AS from the arena.

“It’s like swapping a flat where you’re happy for a villa with all the amenities.

"What breadth, what joy it gives you to see so much space and that the fans will be able to move with so much comfort.

“When this is full, it’s going to be incredible. The most important thing is that the fans will accompany the team.

“It’s easier to move somewhere if you take everyone with you, and that’s what’ll happen here. Atletico will come here with all their people.

“You have to look good. It’s like once you’re dressed, you have to apply the finishing touches.”
