Atleti launch new badge, kit leaked?

Atletico Madrid have officially launched their “historic” new badge, amidst a leak of their kits for next season.

The new shield – a modernised and more rounded take on their previous –  accompanies Atleti’s move to a new stadium, Wanda Metropolitano.

Their 2017-18 home shirt also appears to sport diagonal white lines over their usual red stripes, with its away counterpart being all-yellow.

“Today marks the beginning of a historic season,” began an article posted on Atleti’s official website.

“More than 100,000 members and 50,000 season-ticket holders have joined the club for the opening year of Wanda Metropolitano, the new home of all atleticos.

“Although there are still a few more weeks until the start of the League campaign, the fans’ support is breaking all records, showing the sense of union between the squad and the fans.

“Together we have managed to place the club among the European elite. Atleticos from all over the world are proud of a team that are ranked fourth in the UEFA ranking after qualifying for the Champions League for the fifth consecutive year, a historic milestone for the club.

“From September, the Rojiblancos fans will enjoy a sports facility that meets the highest standards in terms of safety, visibility and comfort, designed to befit the best fans in the world.

“The new badge, which was announced last December, will help to reinforce the steps that have been taken institutionally and sportingly in recent years.

“The badge has evolved, respecting the club’s history and our most iconic colours. Atletico Madrid is a club proud of its roots.

“In honour of Madrid, the bear and arbutus tree have been made more prominent and the upper part of the badge is rounded slightly, in a reference to the club’s first badge.

“Today, we add this badge to those that we have had throughout our history, but we will not forget our previous ones.

“They are equally ours and we are very proud of them all. Our story continues.

“Since 1903, the club have grown to meet the challenges of each era and evolved with the objectives of offering the best results to atleticos.

“With a present day to be proud of, the team, club and fans today start a season that will be unforgettable for everyone.”
