Chapecoense confirm Barca friendly

Brazilian club Chapecoense have confirmed they will play Barcelona in August’s Joan Gamper Trophy match in honour of the 71 people who died last November.

19 Chapecoense players were among those killed as the club’s airplane crashed in Colombia on their way to the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana final against Atletico Nacional.

The Brazilian club’s president Plinio David de Nes Filho told Cadena Ser in an interview in March: "Barcelona was the first team that showed solidarity with us, and for now, it's the only team that's helped us financially sending us €250,000.”

The Blaugrana invited them to this friendly match, which will take place at the Camp Nou on 7 August, to help the "institutional and sporting reconstruction" of the South American side.

This clash will follow Barca’s International Champions Cup games in the United States against Juventus, Manchester United and Real Madrid.
