‘Pepe close to joining Besiktas’

An intermediary has claimed that Besiktas are “close” to signing Real Madrid defender Pepe on a free transfer, despite their Financial Fair Play issues.

Ahmet Bulut, known for being Arda Turan’s agent, is acting as the link between Besiktas and Pepe’s representative Jorge Mendes during negotiations.

“Yes, I’m currently in Lisbon for Pepe,” he told AS.

“There are big clubs chasing him, but his transfer to Besiktas is close.”

The newspaper reports Pepe is demanding a two-year contract worth €10m, plus a €2.5m signing-on fee.

However, with the Turkish champions still working towards satisfying FFP, they must sell before committing to such mammoth terms.

Pepe will end his decade-long association with Madrid this summer as his contract expires on June 30 and he has not been offered a new deal by Los Blancos.

The 34-year-old is also said to have attracted interest from the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Inter.
