Tenerife have taken a narrow lead into the second leg of their promotion playoff final against Getafe thanks to Jorge Saenz’s header.
Saenz powerfully headed home from Gaku Shibasanki’s corner midway through the first half in what proved to be the only goal of the game.
It was a game of few chances – the visitor’s did not manage a shot on target throughout the match – but the Islanders will feel a one-goal advantage may not be enough before going back to Madrid on Sunday.
Getafe defenders Cala and Francisco Molinero went off injured with hamstring and ankle injuries respectively and both are now major doubts for the second leg.
The two will now clash again at Coliseum Alfonso Perez on Sunday with a place in next season’s La Liga at stake.
