Lopes joins AEK Athens

Defender Helder Lopes has left Las Palmas after just one season at the club to join Greek club AEK Athens, it has been confirmed.

The 28-year-old joined Los Amarillos from Pacos Ferreira last summer but was largely an understudy to Dani Castellano during his stint in Gran Canaria.

Lopes made a total of 17 appearances under Quique Setien, two in the Copa Del Rey and will now join the Greek giants on a two-year deal.

AEK and Las Palmas also did business earlier this year for the loan deal for forward Sergio Araujo, who has now returned to Spain.

Javi Varas and Angel Montoro have also left Las Palmas this summer while the club are hopeful of extending the expired loan deal of Paris Saint-Germain forward Jese Rodriguez.
