Official: Ryan joins Brighton

Premier League new boys Brighton and Hove Albion have signed goalkeeper Mat Ryan from Valencia for a club-record fee, believed to be €6m.

The deal was confirmed by both clubs on Friday evening and marks the end of Ryan’s two-year spell at Valencia.

The Australia international joined from Club Brugge in 2015 but played just 10 times for Los Che due to the form of Diego Alves and Jaume Domenech and spent last season on loan at Racing Genk.

New Valencia boss Marcelino made it clear he wanted only two goalkeepers at his disposal, although Roma are reportedly chasing Alves.

Brighton, meanwhile, were looking for a new shot-stopper after David Stockdale surprisingly left to stay in the English second tier with Birmingham City.
