Granada complete double swoop

Granada have completed the signings of Las Palmas goalkeeper Javi Varas and Lugo striker Joselu as they start their rebuilding job following relegation.

Having appointed former Deportivo boss Jose Luis Oltra last week, El Grana must now embark on an extensive summer recruitment drive as only ten first-team squad players are still under contract – many of whom are expected to depart.

Experienced goalkeeper Varas made 56 top flight appearances for Los Amarillos since their 2015 promotion and will replace the outgoing Guillermo Ochoa at Los Carmenes.

26-year-old Joselu joins the Andalucians after a fantastic season with Lugo where he was the top goalscorer in La Liga 123 – netting 23 goals in 39 starts for the Galicians.

"I've never won promotion to LaLiga, so it's an exciting challenge for me,” Varas told the club’s official website.

"Granada CF offered me stability and the pleasure of returning to Andalucia, close to home. They offered me an important project to be part of, which is also very exciting.

“They offered me one of the best challenges of my career, because I’m keen to win titles.”
