Leon: I turned down English offers

Sergio Leon has explained his excitement at returning to boyhood club Real Betis and revealed he turned down offers from England.

The 28-year-old returned to the club where he started his career from Osasuna earlier this month, where he scored 10 La Liga goals last campaign.

“If you go to England, you have to adapt, and also your family and children,” Leon told the Real Betis website.

“I don’t care too much about money. I’ve decided based on feelings and happiness. That’s why I chose here since the moment they called me, even though I also had better offers in La Liga.

“Returning feels a bit strange. After all this time, returning here as a new signing and that the Club has paid for my transfer is weird but emotional at the same time.

“It’s true that when I left Betis before, my focus was to get as far as I could and fight for playing in La Liga as I promised to my father before he passed away.

“I’m quite stubborn, I don’t stop until I get what I want. I don’t give up, regardless of the critics and praise I receive. It’s the way I am, I only look forward. When my son was born, there was a mouth more to feed and that made push even further to keep growing until the day I arrived to Betis.

“My target is to score 15 goals every season, regardless it is in Segunda B, Second Division or La Liga. That’s my target every year. If I get it, great; if not, I’ll try to help the team as much as I can.

“If I can’t score I try to offer other things such as hard work, excitement and fighting spirit. I’ll give everything I can.”
