Herrera set to sign new United deal

Ander Herrera wants to sign a new contract at Manchester United and has no intention of joining Barcelona despite links to the club, say reports.

According to multiple reports in The Times, The Telegraph and ESPN, the 27-year-old has informed the club he wants to put pen to paper on a new deal at Old Trafford to show his commitment to the club.

The former Athletic Bilbao midfielder has a year left to run on his existing contract in England with the option of a further year, but he is ‘likely to be offered’ a new long-term deal before the end of August.

Diario Sport reported prospective new Barca Coach Ernesto Valverde was keen to sign the combative midfielder, whom he managed at Athletic in the 2013-14 campaign before he was sold to United in a €36m deal.

Herrera recently won Manchester United’s Player of the Year award and is highly regarded in England.
