Masch suffers triple injury blow

Javier Mascherano suffered a cut to his head, concussion and a knee injury during Barcelona’s Copa del Rey Final victory over Alaves on Saturday.

Mascherano left the Vicente Calderon on a stretcher in just the 11th minute after he came off worse for wear from a bloody collision with Alaves’ Marcos Llorente.

A statement on the Catalans’ official website read: “The Barca player Javier Mascherano was substituted in the 11th minute of the game in the final.

“Andre Gomes came on to replace him after the Argentine received a nasty blow to the head in a collision with Alaves midfielder Marcos Llorente.

“Mascherano has suffered a cut to his head which needed stitches, concussion and an injury to his right knee which will require further tests.”

Sections of the media believe the Argentine may have played his last game for the Blaugrana, given the club are likely to dispense with several of their older guard over the summer.
