Ziganda: An advantage knowing Athletic

Newly-appointed Athletic Bilbao Coach Jose Angel ‘Cuco’ Ziganda believes his knowledge of the club will help him settle into the role quickly.

Ziganda spent six seasons in charge of the club’s reserve side Bilbao Athletic, whom he guided to Spain’s second tier in 2015 and is expected to help a number of those talents integrate into the first-team squad.

"It is an advantage knowing the club, San Mames, Lezama, the players,” said Ziganda at his unveiling press conference.

“My philosophy? We have a lot of young, exciting talents at the club and we plan to take advantage of that and we must play attacking football to excite our fans of course.

"I'm thankful of the opportunity given. I believe in this club, I consider myself as the happiest and luckiest person of the world.

"We have had no time to talk with everybody. We haven't decided yet who will be part of our staff."

The 50-year-old represented the Basque club as a player between 1991 and 1998, since enjoying managerial stints at Xerez and Osasuna.
