Betis eye Marlon on loan deal

Real Betis are hopeful of a loan deal for Barcelona defender Marlon Santos as they look to overhaul their squad this summer, say reports in Spain.

According to Diario Sport, the former Fluminense player is wanted by Los Verdiblancos on a season-long loan while they also eye up defensive deals for Jorge Mere of Sporting Gijon and Celta Vigo’s Andreu Fontas.

The Brazilian centre-half started each of the Blaugrana’s last two La Liga fixtures against Las Palmas and Eibar due to the absence of Gerard Pique and Javier Mascherano, showing enough to suggest he has a long-term future at the club.

Earlier this month the 21-year-old’s agent confirmed that his one-year loan deal at the Camp Nou would be made permanent by the club, who have been impressed by his progress.

New Betis sporting vice-president is keen to revamp the club’s squad this summer following a disappointing campaign which saw the Seville-based club finish 15th.
