Villar re-elected for 8th term

Angel Maria Villar has been re-elected as president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) during Monday’s general assembly.

Villar, who has headed the federation since 1988, was running unopposed for his eighth successive term after his sole rival, Jorge Perez, could not muster the necessary backing ahead of the election.

Last September, the 67-year-old abandoned his plans to replace Michel Platini as UEFA president to concentrate on his renewal at the RFEF.

Perez – who used to work under Villar – recently confirmed he had called for a new vote to place due to irregularities in the voting process amid claims of corruption.
