‘Atleti story will continue’ – Torres

Fernando Torres believes Atletico Madrid’s ‘story and feelings will continue’ despite ‘fifty years of pure happiness at the Calderon’ ending.

The 33-year-old striker fittingly netted twice in the opening eleven minutes of Atleti’s 3-1 victory over Athletic Bilbao on Sunday in the final match at the Vicente Calderon.

"It's difficult to explain the feelings of a day like today," Torres is quoted as saying by Marca post match.

“Many of us have been coming to the Calderon since we were children and there are a lot of memories that come to mind right now.

"We've lived fifty years of pure happiness at the Calderon; it is a tremendous honour to form a part of all this – now the story and feelings will continue too.

"It was a day to celebrate the contribution of Tiago (who played his last game for the club), it was his day and nobody else’s."

The former Liverpool and Chelsea striker then appeared to commit his future to the club as they move into their new stadium.

"I want to feel this same pride, to help with the team's growth and to enjoy this shirt for many more years to help my teammates and this club,” he added.

"I thank the fans for their support this season because it has been incredible, especially in defeat."We'll be back next year and will try again.”
