Simeone: I’m staying at Atleti

Diego Simeone has confirmed that he will remain Atletico Madrid’s Coach next season. “This club have a future, and that future is all of us.”

Simeone had been heavily linked with the vacancy at former club Inter in recent months, but the Argentine has now pledged his loyalty to Atleti, keeping to his word that he would take the team into the side’s new Wanda Metropolitano stadium.

“I’m grateful to all those who have played here, the footballers, Coaches and directors,” he told Los Colchoneros fans via a microphone after their 3-1 win against Athletic Bilbao, in the final La Liga game at the Vicente Calderon.

“For you [fans], the word ‘feeling’ is very deep. The other teams may have more money, some may have more trophies than us, but they’ll never be able to match the feeling you have for Atletico.

“Journalists continually ask me if I’m going to stay. Yes, I’m staying.

“And do you know why I’m staying? Because this club have a future and that future is all of us.”
