Preview: Sporting-Betis

El Molinon hosts its final La Liga game for some time on Saturday as relegated Sporting Gijon take on Real Betis, who cannot finish higher than 14th.

Sporting boss Rubi on his future: “My feeling is that I improved the team, but not enough.

“We picked up 18 points, but that was too little and that’s my responsibility.

“I’d like to stay at Sporting, but only if the club are convinced by the work of this coaching staff. If there are any doubts, we’d be set up to fail.

“My idea of staying won’t change if [sporting director] Nico Rodriguez leaves.

“Maybe in another situation he would’ve sacked me, but we both know how football works.”

Betis caretaker Alexis Trujillo on Las Palmas boss Quique Setien possibly taking over: “He’s one of the candidates that we’re mulling over and we’ve already had a meeting with him.

“He’s very well qualified, he gives a lot of importance to playing with the ball and he has a very good understanding of the game.

“He’s a Coach that tries to improve every year and he’s shown it with Las Palmas’ good level of play.”
