Setien ‘right profile’ for Betis

Outgoing Las Palmas Coach Quique Setien is in talks over the managerial vacancy at Real Betis this summer, confirmed vice-president Lorenzo Serra Ferrer.

The 58-year-old took the reins at Estadio Gran Canaria in October 2015, steering them to comfortable La Liga safety in their first year back in the top flight.

After a hugely impressive start to the current campaign in which they were in the top half at the turn of the year, their form has nosedived as news as the Coach’s exit filtered through.

“We have opened the possibility of bringing Quique Setien to the club and yes it is true that we have interviewed with him, as it should be,” Ferrer told Canal Sur.

“We discussed as a club who we want and there has been a consensual agreement that Quique is a football man and knows Betis are an exciting project which can fulfill his ambitions.

“We have spoken with him several times and the discussions have been positive, it is fair to say he has an ideal profile that I believe coincides with Betis.

“Yes there are other options who we consider to be exceptional candidates also, so over the weekend we will decide upon the correct man to come in and hopefully they will accept.

“Nobody has a magic wand for results to improve but Betis fans want to have a team they can enjoy and of course for results to come too.”

Betis dismissed Victor Sanchez del Amo earlier this month after less than six months after he failed to change the side’s struggling campaign.
