Atletico Madrid Coach Diego Simeone has described his players as ‘wild animals’ after they fought back to win a point at Betis despite fatigue.
Los Rojiblancos earned a 1-1 draw at Estadio Benito Villamarin only four days after their tiring Champions League semi final second leg against Real Madrid.
"We started well, but then they took control and were better and had chances," the coach said in his post-match press conference.
"Then in the second half we tried to play a little more like ourselves, but the players were tremendously fatigued.
"Those that have played have had little rest, but my players are wild animals because they show signs of life even though they're tired.
"For me, this has been the most difficult season since I arrived at the club, we sadly had too many inconveniencies to maintain much stability.
"It was a tough start and then in October and November many people thought we were out of everything, yet once again we are third.
"It was a tremendous and difficult tussle with Sevilla, who competed well [for third].
"Yet we never gave up and were very consistent in the second half of the season, which allows the players the prize of automatic Champions League qualification.
"That may seem simple given our recent successes, but it is enormously pleasing."
